The Venue for all events will be Rosario Hall on the Campus of Mt. St. Vincent University (MSVU). It is located on the Bedford Highway, near Halifax. 


Program Details

 

Thursday August 21st - Registration and Welcoming Reception

Registration will take place from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the foyer of Rosaria Hall at Mount St. Vincent University. You can pick up your registration kit and name tag at the registration desk. All registrants are invited to a cash-bar welcoming reception to be held in the foyer of Rosaria Hall (7:00 to 9:00 p.m.).


PLEASE NOTE – To receive the early-bird reduced registration rate and to be eligible for the early-bird door prize, you MUST pre-register BEFORE June 22, 2008.


You MUST pre-register for all events, EXCEPT the Flea Market, on or before August 11, 2008 (in order to confirm catering requirements).

If you do not pre-register you can not be guaranteed access to events with limited seating capacity.

Friday August 22nd – Registration

Registration will take place from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. in the foyer of Rosaria Hall at Mount St. Vincent University. You can pick up your registration kit and name tag at the registration desk. Registrants attending either the DX Forum or the Far Side of Amateur Radio programs should pick up their registration kit before moving to their respective meeting rooms.

Friday August 22nd – DX Forum

All Dxers, contesters and HF enthusiasts are invited to the Fifth Annual Maritime DX Forum to be held on Friday, 22 August 2008 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:45 p.m. as part of the Down East Hamfest.

The purposes of the Maritime DX Forum are to: 1) share our fascination for all aspects of DXing, contesting and HF operating; 2) encourage greater HF activity among hams in the region and beyond; and 3) enjoy ham radio friendships.

Registration for the Maritime DX Forum is $45, but we encourage everyone to register for the entire 75th Anniversary Hamfest celebration and take advantage of the other events planned for this weekend. The Registration form can be downloaded here.

Friday August 22nd – The Far Side of Amateur Radio

This programme has been developed for those Hams who have an interest in VHF/UHF; APRS; Fox Hunting; Geocaching; and other “cutting-edge” aspects of Amateur Radio.

Friday August 22nd Evening – 75th Anniversary Banquet

Join us for the central event of HARC´s celebration of 75 years of achievement in amateur radio and service to the local community and region. The 75th Anniversary Banquet offers a fine menu and an interesting program about our past and present successes, and future ambitions.

David Sumner (K1ZZ) will be present the keynote After Dinner Address: Not your Grandfather’s Amateur Radio.
David Sumner is the CEO of the ARRL in Newington, Connecticut. We are extremely fortunate to have David attending and making this presentation.

Saturday, August 23rd – Down East Amateur Radio Flea Market

The Down East Flea Market is the largest of its kind in Atlantic Canada.

In the afternoon, there well be a series of presentations that run concurrently with the Flea Market.

Saturday, August 23rd – Beer, Pizza and Bluegrass

The Saturday evening social, Beer, Pizza and Bluegrass, will take place in Vinnie’s Pub. Join in the fun with live musical entertainment by Sunrise, a bluegrass band directed by HARC’s own Don Trotter (VE1DTR). Cash bar.

Sunday, August 24th – Farewell Brunch
